Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: mountall
I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 9.10 through Update Manager. For
the first few weeks, everything was fine. Then quite occasionally,
during bootup before the usplash, the following message shows:
Mount of filesystem failed. xxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
A maintenance shell will now be started.
CONTROL-D will terminate this shell and retry.

Following the instruction I pressed CTRL+D, then the following message
shows:
rip...@midasmobile:"# exit
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.16

Then Ubuntu would go about performing a long list of checking on block
size, node, links, etc. and occasionally prompting me whether to fix a
particular problem. I pressed "Y" on every prompt to fix the respective
problem.
At the end of the fsck process, I'm asked to reboot. So I did, then
everything is fine again. But the above issue repeats itself again after
a while. So far, I've not identified any pattern in my usage that could
cause this, but it had been happening frequently enough to feel
uncomfortable.
By the way, I'm using a Lenovo SL400 Thinkpad laptop. I did an "apt-cache
policy mountall" and got the following output:
mountall:
Installed: 1.0
Candidate: 1.0
Version table:
*** 1.0 0
500 http://free.nchc.org.tw karmic/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Looking forward to hear some kind of answer as to why is this happening.
Thanks!
Cheers!
