same issue here ... fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 x86, on a asus eeepc 901 (intel i945). Only wireless karmic backports installed, and all proposed updates done. I was unable to reproduce because I always use the same programs and sometimes the session stays up for hours, and other times it returns to gdmlogin twice in few minutes :( very annoying problem...
