Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

For the wishlist?

It is possible to accidentally disable security updates, either in
Software Sources, or in sources.list. As well as being a security
problem, I only noticed this when a PPA required a higher version of a
package than was installed for that version, which confused me.

I'd suggest that when exiting synaptic, the user should be warned if
security updates are disabled. This could perhaps also be a balloon
produced when update manager checks?
