I disabled the camera by editing the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file.

If you (as root) add the line

blacklist uvcvideo

to the end of the file, the video camera module will not be loaded.  I 
believe this allows full use of the usb ports and solves the hiberation 
problem as well.  It does make it impossible to use the webcam though.
