Just chiming in again.  It's been 10 days since the last post & I'm
concerned that the correction of this regression will just float off
into the ether.

This issue has apparently been fixed upstream and in experimental
builds, but why not in Ubuntu 9.10+?  Also, I'm concerned that Ubuntu is
using a beta copy of Grub2 while the latest build on gnu.org is 1.97.1
final.

I love my Ubuntu/XPsp3 box and don't want to break it by switching my
MBR to sdb (plus my wife will kill me :P ).  Ubuntu 9.04 started
perfectly with Grub2 1.96.

I am seriously considering rolling back to Grub Legacy in the New Year.
Please escalate the priority of releasing a fix for this troubling
issue.  If Ubuntu ever hopes to compete with M$...
