In reply to kernel-janitor on 2009-08-25 I did not notice your request before, but this bug is not an issue for me anymore. On 2008-11-03, I reinstalled 8.10 without AHCI enabled in the bios and I did not encounter any freezes.
At this moment I'm running Karmic with 2.6.31-16-generic, still with AHCI disabled in the bios.
