The changes in Debian can safely be incorporated in Ubuntu because its a new
production release that fixed a previous bug #
521889 (Debian Bug Tracker). The package also builds fine in a lucid chroot:

dpkg-deb: building package `libimage-exiftool-perl' in
`../libimage-exiftool-perl_7.89-1_all.deb'.
 dpkg-genchanges >../libimage-exiftool-perl_7.89-1_i386.changes
dpkg-genchanges: including full source code in upload
dpkg-buildpackage: full upload (original source is included)
