Even the correct password does not enable the decryption, with a cryptic (to 
me) message that the key can not be found.

~$ ecryptfs-mount-private
Enter your login passphrase:
Inserted auth tok with sig [924ca7c19293e98c] into the user session keyring
keyctl_search: Required key not available
Perhaps try the interactive 'ecryptfs-mount-private'

Any ideas?
