I am also having the above issues. On another note, Firefox is installed, but I use primarily Google Chrome. The issue is intermittent and really strange, and above all this greatly disrupts my computer usage. I have to start tabbing around the screen and using primarily the keyboard to navigate and select items.
Also, this problem happens to me in both Ubuntu 9.10 and Mint Helena. I have no idea what could be causing it. Please e-mail if any additional information is needed.
