Ubuntu 9.10 new install stopped at 94%, with error that Grub could not be installed. Live CD session then crashed, so unable to record full error details. More bizarrely, the PC would then not even POST. No access to BIOS. Eventually this recovered, but no Grub on MBR. PC is new, with very ordinary design: 2x SATA discs on separate channels, dual booting from sda (hd0), both os on that disc, AMD dual core processor, 4GB ram. Having left it overnight, I can now boot back into WinXP.
