The laptop is a Mitac 8050D. Basically a Pentium M 1.5ghz, radeon9700 mobile 128mb gfxcard, 1GB ram, a 160gb hd. Perhaps that is of any significance. Maybe not.

One example I can give is changing between tabs in firefox takes 10-20 seconds, I cannot create a new tab while a webpage is loading and each page (even google.com) takes ages to appear. Swapping between workspaces can takes from 30 sec up to a minute which is unbearable. This problem is also apparent in mozilla thunderbird. Clicking on a subfolder just takes forever. Even the mousepointer stops responding often when firefox is loading and it has never done that before. I tried booting slightly older kernel version, but to no avail. Since this problem is with the whole gnome desktop is simply makes ubuntu unusable for the time being. I had to boot into WINDOWS! I will post my xorg.conf. That is the only thing that I have played with to any serious extend since I installed. Mostly for fun. I will try to comment out those changes I made and see if it makes a difference.
