similar problem on an ASUS PRO75 though i'm using kdm, the screen brightness slider hs to be "touched" to restore full brightness the screen dims to minimum when I -boot -close the lid -start anysoftware using a graphic surface (mplayer , SDL)

(kernel? intel driver?
