I wanna add some informations... As far as I know, Network Connection tool works fine with Live CD, but after installing Karmic it stops working, so I agree with Jacob, it's not the Manager... If the problem was in NM, than it wouldn't work with Live CD too... The problem is somewhere else... I hope that this will help you somehow.
