Installing libxine-extracodecs should have solved the problem, but I'm
only reading the documentation from the wiki and forums (as I do not use
Kaffeine or Xine).

usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.1.1/ directory, but you seem to be using 1.1.2.

Just to check, are you running Ubuntu / Kubuntu 6.06 and are you
installing Xine / Kaffeine from the official repositories?  All the Xine
packages I can see are using 1.1.1, hence the file is installed into
that directory.
