I have tried starting off of the LiveCD and same- no sound at all. I am
a little unclear as to what you are describing...would that be-

1. Log Out
2. go into a terminal session
3. issue 'alsa force-reload'

or do i have to explicitly issue 'kill pulseaudio'

I see that the status has again been changed to 'fix released'. To be
honest, this has been frustrating. It seems that this issue has affect
several different versions of Ubuntu, and many different laptop models.
There have also been differing fixes for this. Everything I have tried
has not worked. The only other possibility I can see is that somehow my
internal sound module on the T43 somehow got switched 'off', but I have
been in the BIOS several times and cannot find a switch for it anywhere.

I hope that somehow I have not broken my sound card permanently...as I
need it for what I do. Bottom line is, the issue is not fixed for me, I
hope I can find a solution soon- not sure what else to do at this point.
Thanks for your help.
