I had the same problem, and I tried to disable all my extensions and re- enable them one by one. The one causing the problem is "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications". Is is great for integration with apt, but it enforces the layout of the UI... We should report it as a bug of the extension. Meanwhile, disabling it works like a charm.
