I can confirm this running Karmic with KDE SC 4.4. To reproduce: 1) Start Font Installer (either via systemsettings, krunner, konsole, kmenu....) 2) Add a font (either .otf or .ttf) try to install it systemwide
You'll get an error message saying "Failed to start the system daemon".
