I don't know if this is useful but I'm struggling to get dvgrab to
capture from my camcorder via USB and I get:

~/video/capture $ dvgrab -V lucas
Error: v4l2reader.cc:66: In function "virtual bool v4l2Reader::Open()": "m_fd =
open( m_device, O_RDWR | O_NONBLOCK, 0 )" evaluated to -1
v4l2reader.cc:66: errno: 2 (No such file or directory)terminate called without
an active exception
Aborted

That seems pretty similar. Although a USB device shows up I've found no
'obvious' (google, ubuntu forums) way to capture the stuff. dvgrab is
cited but there seems to be almost no documentation apart from its man
pages.
