I just updated from Breezy to Dapper and have come across this issue.
The Dapper upgrade has installed the 2.6.15.26-386 kernel image and
since then, the computer is almost unusable at initial bootup and the
Ubuntu drums continually repeat.

Once the repeating stops, the PC returns to normal performance (AFAIK),
however, sound is now unusable.

I have a VIA KM266Pro chipset with a VIA VT8235 South Bridge. Audio is all
onboard. The motherboard user manual states the audio specifications as:
- AC'97 Digital Audio Controller integrated,
- AC'97 Audio CODEC on board.

Since this is my first Dapper kernel, I am unable to revert to the most
recent kernel as for me this is 2.6.12.10 and is likely incompatible
with Dapper.
