Dear Surbhi Palande, Thanks for your interest in my case. I tried the new kernel 2.6.31-17-generic after updating. But the problem continued. So the only way I found was to remove Ubuntu from my laptop. But this put me into greater trouble. I could not open windows xp too. Luckily I had an image saved in another drive from which I was able to restore the windows xp system back. I do not have the courage again to install Ubuntu in my laptop as I am new to Linux systems. However, I am working with Ubuntu on my Desktop with the Kernel 2.6.31-17-generic. In the desktop I have no problem.
