I had this bug on Jaunty too, with the same graphics chipset as
nicklondon28.  It still happens on Karmic (same hardware, clean
install).  I can run GE by using xorg.conf.failsafe, which loads the
"vesa" driver instead of the default "intel".  It's slower, of course,
but otherwise perfect.

Nostalgic note: Several Ubuntu versions ago, I used to get full
acceleration using the "i810" driver.  Unfortunately that driver was
dropped and, although there are some posts out there describing how to
install it, I haven't been able to get it working.
