Have you tried the stable builds and seen this bug?
Have you been using ubuntuzilla the whole time?
I dont have a problem using the stable 3.5, 3.6 unstabe3.7
I did same updates and i see java just fine. Can you please go to Java's
home page and see if everything works right? If not please attach a
screenshot of the problem
