Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

When printing from Mac OS X onto a CUPS server under Kubuntu, the print
quality is very degraded.

The result looks like an artisanal black and white rasterization.

In /var/log/cups/error.log, one can read:

W [23/Jan/2010:13:18:50 +0100] [Job 104] Gutenprint detected a bad color
depth (1). Output quality is degraded. Are you using psnup or non-ADSC
PostScript?

The problem appeared right after a recend packages upgrade (sorry, I
don't remind exactly which packages have been upgraded at that time).

Versions:
------------

Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10
cups 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.1
cups-driver-gutenprint 5.2.4-0ubuntu2
libgutenprint2 5.2.4-0ubuntu2
printer StylusDX-7000F
printer driver Epson Stylus DX7000F - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.4

Expected: normal printout as usual
Happened instead: black and white spots

There are other reports of the same problem on the Web, like
http://linux.org.ua/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1236990937 (in Ukranian,
but the pictures there are showing the problem quite well).
