FYI: I have been trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 to an HP 550 but have the same issue, after selecting "Install Ubuntu" the screen just goes blank. I have disabled SATA Native Mode as suggested here and other places but the issue persists.
I am using the Ubuntu alternative install disk as I want to encrypt the system. I have tried with the Ubuntu Desktop install disk.
