Hi Michael I just use the image from January 28. After doing the changes of #3 the install works, the manual partitioning is no problem anymore.
Why are your changes from #3 not already included, they work just fine. One thing that was strange, was the point, that it stated "Welcome to Kubuntu 9.10" I guess some parts in the text section of the installer are not up to date.
