I seem to have this problem as well. After a few days, my installation of Kubuntu 9.10 become extremely slow, the kickoff launcher is missing all entries and compositing is disabled due to slow response. I just checked system monitor and found that system memory is fully utilized and the greatest offender is 'plasma-desktop' (currently using 2,041MiB). The second highest useage is 'nepomukservicestub' (using 286 MiB). This is making Kubuntu practically unusable for me. I have a dual-core AMD Athlon 64 4200+ CPU with 4GB of RAM installed. kdebase-workspace- 4:4.3.4-0ubuntu1~karmic1
