I get the purpose of these posts, but unfortunately I'm not so keen on applying an attachment/patch.
All I can say is that my 12" PPC G4 is unable to mount any DVD/CDs regardless of the manufacturer or volume. Never had 9.04 on this PPC so i'm unfamiliar with how the optical drive worked on that, but on Karmic it is a pain to work around on and I see this same situation on many forums. Would love to get this resolved and begin to use Brasero and VLC to begin burning and watching my DVDs as well as CDs. I will say that the application "Sysinfo" under the "Storage" tab does read and recognize the volume on my optical drive so I'm sure there is some light at the end of this tunnel.
