As a followup: After burning the same DVD+RW media with K3b, Brasero now recognises the media and seems to want to allow me to burn onto it. I don't understand what is so special about burning onto it with K3b. Blanking it under Win7 with CDBurnderXP didn't change anything before this.
The only thing worse than an arbitrary bug is one which is not reliably reproducible.
