I notice this with Openoffice Writer, Kubuntu 9.10.  I don't think it is every 
time it is hibernated.
We're not just talking slow .. it is absolutely unusable.  Openoffice takes 
several seconds to respond to every keypress. Restarting Openoffice.org and 
reopening documents fixes it.

Has been this way for some time.  Does not happen every time the computer is 
defrosted or I would have switches OSes by now. 
I'm not sure file caches can explain this and not Intel Graphics (both 
explanations I've seen): Core2 Duo T8300  @ 2.40GHz & NVidia graphics
Other apps either not affected or not so bad that I really notice.
