This is not simply a bug. It is a "bug" in security procedures and programming procedures:
1. Security: Deliberately faking DNS server data, i.e. putting 4.2.2.1 into /etc/resolv.conf, is a very serious thing. This creates great doubt on the security of Ubuntu (and also of Fedora, where this "bug" is also reported). On whose behalf is this done? Which organization is covertly spying on our DNS lookups and, possibly, forging the responses? I definitely do not want DNS servers in the UK, a foreign NATO country, to be my primary servers (traceroute 4.2.2.1 goes to the UK). 2. Programming: The chosen fake DNS server data "4.2.2.1" is not visible to or changeable by the user in any obvious way before dialling. In other words, it can be described as placed in the software code in stead of in the configuration data. That is extremely bad programming practise. Can anyone give a plausible reason why the DNS server thing worked perfectly in Ubuntu 9.04 but does not work in 9.10? -- network-manager: no dns received with mobile connectio (Huawei E220) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434477 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
