My Two Cents ... Without rehashing all of the details, I have exactly the same issue using the Intel 5100 card. I've tried the backport drivers (installed them from the repositories) and was able to stay afloat longer, but within a few hours I still get the lockups. I've searched all over and have not found one confirmed instance of WPA/WPA2 to work with the 5100 card; yet have found countless instances of others with this problem. I'll gladly post lspci, lsmod and/or config/log files if requested, but it will more than likely show the same information is the poster.
As stated, my workaround is to use WEP or wired networking at home, however at school they use WPA so I cannot connect to their network until this bug is resolved.
