I am having a similar problem except I have been unable to print anything. Everything gets stuck. I have a similar architecture but a Gnome desktop. I incorrectly reported the bug in Gedit, but it is clearly in CUPS. My info is in Bug 519965 and 519971. This bug also seems to affect the ink reporting levels. It's as though the system and the printer quit talking.
