Please find kern.log attached. I ran sudo iwconfig wlan0 mode managed but that command just wound up hanging.
Interestingly I did a watch cat /proc/interrupts and 1: 1003 XT-PIC-XT i8042 which appears to be my PS/2 keyboard continued to increase only when I pressed keys on the keyboard. However the input was never registered by X (and I could not switch to a virtual terminal).
