are running using Jaunty or Karmic, please run the command apport-collect -p
alsa-base 523050.
If you are running Karmic, please read through the following wiki page as it
resolves a lot of common audio problems.

Also, can you please state whether you have no sound for CDs & only in
rhythmbox, or no sound at all.
