I cannot stop the server by hand either. I found out the script must run /usr/bin/mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf shutdown
...and when I sudo this by hand, I get: /usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user 'debian-sys-maint'@'localhost' (using password: YES)' So, there must be a mismatch between the password in debian.cnf and the password actually in use for debian-sys-maint. -- package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.37-1ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509736 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
