<Steve Langasek> "This is a log from right after a hung boot?"

Yes, it is.

<Steve Langasek> "If you press Alt+SysRq+K at the hung screen, does X
restart and are you then able to use the system without a reboot?"

No. All keyboard input is frozen. I tried that input along with all the
others from "REISUB".

========================================================

Steve,

 There's one caveat to all this. When its frozen, its frozen, but if I
power-cycle the computer, it may boot up next time.

 If it doesn't I can keep doing the power-cycle and eventually it will
boot up with Plymouth. I don't know if that is anything telling.

I'm thinking there is a fight going on between GDM and Plymouth.
Sometimes Plymouth wins. Something happens that causes it to boot up. I
have tested it and within 5-6 power-cycles it will boot up.

Not good for the file system though. fsck always complains but fixes any
broken links. At lease this is a testament to the durability of Ext4.
