This bug also affects Lucid via the call to udisks-probe-ata-smart in /lib/udev/rules.d/80-udisks.rules (from the package udisks). Uncommenting the line
KERNEL=="sd*[!0-9]", ATTR{removable}=="0", ENV{ID_BUS}=="ata", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="disk", IMPORT{program}="udisks-probe-ata-smart $tempnode" in /lib/udev/rules.d/80-udisks.rules works around the problem on my Acer. Is there any plan to include a real fix for this problem in Lucid? The upstream kernel bug was closed, the upstream libatasmart bug hasn't received much attention.
