After some on-site work, we have determined that sound is indeed working, however it is *extremely* faint. We will now follow the directions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems/KarmicCaveats#Volume%20range%20anomalies to see if this helps to make the audio loud enough.
