A workaround to make xmms disappear from the taskbar when using xmms- status-plugin is to activate "Show window manager decorations" in xmms' options. This has the side-effect of actually showing the wm decorations, but the whole point of the status-plugin is to get rid of the player gui anyway so maybe it doesn't matter.
