I tried doing what you asked but it did not go away. Besides that
command stays in the foreground and does not return control back to me
unless I terminate it with Ctrl+C. Even if I put it into the background
top still shows udisks-daemon as being the no 1 process always. I put it
into the background by keeping a separate shell window open for root
purposes and sent it to the background from there.

The load has not dropped at all. Also I have a USB mouse and a USB
keyboard always plugged in. Other than that nothing else is plugged in.
BTW this is a new issue, did not happen in 9.04 the load was stable
then. I have not tried 9.10.
