current synaptic update caused this problem today.
error "open office is running" - it wasn't but there were several processes 
running so I killed them but a few seconds later I'd get the same error and the 
processes would be there again with new PID's.
They just kept re-spawning so I eventually gave up, canceled the update which 
brought on this error report.
