I have same issues on Karmic. Evolution freezes on start, killing evolution-alarm-notify makes it work until I try to use Calendar. Gnome panel freezes after clicking Clock applet. Deleting ~/.evolution fixes the problem, but that doesn't seem like permanent solution.
