I have 2.28.2 and http://www.gnome.org/projects/totem/#codecs  gives a
list of needed gstreamer plugins, but the names are not the same as in
Ubuntu.  There is also two that have -bad in them, one from multiverse.
You can't have both.  Or at least I can't.  After going into the
synaptic package manager, I cannot include the fluendo demuxer as it
conflicts with the -bad plugin.

This is confusing, too:  Codecs    Totem can display a variety of
formats, based on what backend you use. To see what backend you are
using check the "About" dialog of Totem.

Here is what I get when I do this:  See attached screenshot.  How does
this help?
