Seems to be the same (or at least same symptoms) that I see on karmic amd64 running 2.6.31-17-generic with "Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5300" (thinkpad x200s). I can get it unstuck by flipping the wireless hw kill switch to turn wireless off and then on again after a few seconds.
