thanks for the solution. actually, i had same issues with wi-fi connectivity 
with Ubuntu 9.10 installed in Dell xps 1530 using Wubi installer. It didnt 
recognize the driver.
I removed 9.10 and installed Ubuntu 9.4 and It worked.
After a fresh install of 9.4 it displayed an icon to activate broadcom driver. 
On clicking it pops up a window to activate it. 

With a with restart wi-fi is up and running!!!!!
