Same problem here on a fresh install of Ubuntu Lucid Alpha 3 (all updates applied), using an ATI card (ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M] [1002:5975] Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:01f5]). The error I get is:
