I took the risk and installed Lucid alpha 3 on my laptop after reading this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1376547
I edited the grub2 config-file with this command: gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub and added nolapic to this line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nolapic" And updated grub2 with this command: sudo update-grub After a reboot the cooling fan now seemingly work as it should. Consider this as a workaround. An average user should not experience this problem and be forced to manually edit grub2's config file. Now it should be easy to cure this bug permanently ;-) Best regards Pere Ubu -- Lucid makes Acer 5315 overheat and shut down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532978 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
