For the following description, I'll talk about three bugs A, B and C.
Lets say that you file bug B, which later gets marked as a duplicate of
A.  Changes to A will be sent to A's direct subscribers, and subscribers
to A's duplicates (such as B).  Lets say that C then gets marked as a
duplicate of A.  This will send out a message to C's subscribers and A's
subscribers abouit the fact, which is why B's reporter would hear about
it.  Note that after this point, A's direct subscribers shouldn't hear
about changes to bugs B or C.

Now, are the unwanted notifications you're talking about just the
notifications about new duplicates, or are you saying that you are
getting further messages about the dupes?  If it is just the former,
then this is a duplicate of bug 91212.
