ok i'm back, I did a clean install and i was able to reboot for a while, then i installed the 250Mb of updatesand it stopped. I'm back at square one.
I looked at the suspected modem issues, modem-manager in particular and eventually killed the process off entirely and renamed the binary to stop it from relaunching. Made sure that modem-manager was not running and tried a reboot. this time i get no modem-manager exceptions but i'm left with the HAL message mentioned above and a flashing cursor. Pretty sure this is not modem related guys. Aside from the updates that installed i also installed the following software sudo apt-get install nmap iptraf gparted simple-ccsm compizconfig- settings-manager gtkpod vlc ffmpeg xubuntu-restricted-extras hipo rhythmbox wavemon powertop mplayer mplayer-skins iftop htop smc smc- music frozen-bubble joe sshfs gthumb cairo-dock opera aircrack-ng mozilla-thunderbird startupmanager deluge any clues in there or can i provide any debug info? -- [Karmic] Hangs during shutdown with kernel 2.6.31-7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418509 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
