Public bug reported: Version: Ubuntu 9.10
What I want: I've installed ubuntu on a mini-itx system which I use to stream music/personal website on my home network. In order to make it user friendly for my family, I want it to shut down automatically when the power switch is pressed. What works: When the server is plugged in to a monitor and booted up, and then the power button is pressed, it shuts down. If I'm logged in, it does it instantly because I've changed a setting using the gconf-editor. At the gdm-login screen, a dialog appears with a 60 second counter. When the counter hits zero, the machine shuts down. If I log into the server using vncserver and hit the power button, it also shuts down correctly. What doesn't work: When the server is not plugged in to a monitor and booted up, pressing the power switch has no effect whatsoever. When I connect to the server using vnc, and select system->preference->power management and go to the 'general' tab, there is no 'shut down' option in the list for 'when the power button is pressed'; only suspend and hibernate are there. When the monitor is plugged in, this option is present. What I expect: That regardless of having a monitor connected, I can hit the power switch to shut down the machine. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: headless shutdown -- power button shutdown doesn't work on headless server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537960 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
